He was born on 24th June 1987, in Rosario, Argentina. His father is Jorge Horácio Messi and his mom is Celia María Cuccittini. When he was five, Messi started playing for Grandoli, a local club coached by his father. When he was seven he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. Barcelona offered to pay Messi’s medical bills, on the condition that he moved to Spain.
In 2004, he played his first game for the main team of Barcelona against Porto. In 2007, Messi established the Leo Messi foundation, a charity organization that supports access to education and health care for vulnerable children.
In 2009, he won his first Golden Ball. Then, he won three more in the following years. On the 2nd November 2012, Messi became a father for the first time with the birth of his son Thiago.
